18.0.2 patch installation problems

Karen Harker
I just installed v. 18.0.0, and it worked fine.  I then realized I needed to install the patches to get the Python & R extensions to work.  I downloaded the 32-bit version of 18.0.2 page for Windows (I have Windows XP) and installed it.  Now, I get this error when I try to open SPSS/PASW v.18:

The application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect.  Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Well, I uninstalled v. 18 then repeated the process.  Again, 18.0.0 worked fine, but got this message again after installing the patch.

I have spent nearly all day working on this installation (including installing R & Python)...please help me get this working.

Thanks.

I know it's a bit like tech support asking you if it's plugged in, but in light of the recent posts by Andreas Voelp, I have to ask:  Are you sure you're using the patch that matches your version of SPSS (32- or 64-bit)?
