A personal note

Jon K Peck
After 13 years teaching graduate econometrics, statistics, and computing at a university and 32 years at SPSS/IBM I will be retiring at the end of December.  I will be on vacation during December.

I plan to stay active on this list and on the new IBM Predictive Analytics Community (https://developer.ibm.com/predictiveanalytics/) and other SPSS activities.  I will also do a little consulting.

I joined SPSS in 1983 to work on the first SPSS PC product and worked on the pc architecture, the user interface, and various statistical procedures .  Since then, I have worked on pretty much all aspects of the SPSS products, focusing on extensibility in particular in recent years.

I have worked with many customers including many users on this list and other forums.

It has been a great ride.  If you want to keep in touch, I can be reached at [hidden email].

Best wishes to all for happy holidays and SPSS futures.

Jon, I can't thank you enough. I certainly wouldn't have progressed in my career as far as I have done without the help I have received from you (and at times that too on a daily basis).

Very pleased to hear you shall still be active on various forums. I hope IBM have an army of resource to take over from the void you shall be leaving of supporting and the on-going development of SPSS!

Happy holidays and retirement!

May I be among the first to wish you a long and happy retirement.  You’ve been an enormous help to so many people, including pests like me.

Glad to know you’ll still be on the list.  Hope IBM give you a free licence for life and a new computer every two or three years.  You deserve it.

Best

Jon,

It's been a pleasure reading your posts regarding SPSS updates and solutions for all these years.

I think back to a few years ago where I complained bitterly that there was no built-in procedure to fit "Rasch models" (various types of logistic regression model used in contemporary psychometrics to measure psychological constructs), and your response was such a pleasant surprise. You suggested that we search for an R extension that fit Rasch models, which we ultimately found. You then worked closely with me examining the algorithms and output to ensure the extension would produce correct and key statistics. While I'm sure this was routine for you, it was not for me. Rarely have I ever received that kind of support  from a representative of a statistical software company. That's just one of many examples I could provide.

I hope you remain an active participant during retirement and accessible to those at the University in which you taught. Your SPSS programming and statistical knowledge is vast and invaluable.

While you are undoubtedly irreplaceable, I hope another engineer from SPSS would be willing to join and engage the list as you have.

Thank you for all your contributions, Jon.

Wishing you all the best for the next chapter of your life.

It is a little bit anxious to hear that the most noticeable pivot behind SPSS developings is retiring. What will come to SPSS Statistics?

Jon is the most active and helpful and responsive "insider" of it whom I know. And the one who has been creating numerous extensions (and macros and scripts) for everybody to use. Will ever SPSS enhance MATRIX and macro facilities if Jon will go (he says he's been lobbying those changes for some time)?

I hope very much that Jon will continue being on the line and contributing.

Meanwile, good hoildays to you. Have you places where to bicycle in winter? (Ah, sorry, yours winters are not like our russian ones...)

Congratulations.

However, having known you through your postings, and having met face to face on many occasions, I assume that you will be joining those of us who are "allegedly retired".

Since I retired in 2001 you have been a great help on the pro bono human rights projects I have been working on.  THANK YOU.

Be sure to contact me if you are ever thinking of coming to the west coast of Florida
