There's nothing "wrong" with a cross-loading, as long as it can be justified statistically and substantively. One of the most widely used IQ tests presents, in the latest manual, a second-order CFA with a cross-loading between a manifest variable and one of the first-order factors, as a way to validate the factorial structure the developers expected.
As David pointed out, parsimony is always preferred, but if there is good reason and empirical data to suggest a more complex model explains the data better than the "cleaner model," then so be it. So, this is also about cross-loadings as I initially indicated, in addition to redundant variables? Boy is it hard to follow this thread! David, is the OP only emailing you? Maybe my gmail is filtering SPSS-L emails. Ryan Sent from my iPhone On Apr 22, 2013, at 4:46 PM, David Marso <[hidden email]> wrote: > 1. Nuke the dups. > 2. There are no cross-loadings in this model...

Hi Ryan,
For some reason I'm getting your replies to my private email but they're not showing up on here. The cross loading items are found in factor 3 but have been renamed to avoid error messages pertaining to duplicated names cropping up. The originals are IDP9, IDP12, IDP3win. The duplicates are IDP9_3, IDP12_3 and IDP3win_3 |

Hello David
I have the same problem with RSK My analysis couldn't find any solution This is my problem as follows: The sample moment matrix is not positive definite. It could fail to be positive definite for any of the following reasons: 1. The sample covariance matrix or the sample correlation matrix contains a data entry error. 2.The observed variables are linearly dependent (perhaps because the sample size is too small). 3. The sample covariance matrix or sample correlation matrix was computed from incomplete data using method of 'Pairwise deletion'. 4.The sample correlation matrix contains correlation coefficients other than product moment correlations (such as tetrachoric correlations). For maximum likelihood estimation only,it may be appropriate to check "Allow non-positive definite sample covariance matrices" in the "Analysis Properties" window, or to use the NonPositive method. Please help me to find the solution about this SEM_1.amw <http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/file/t341702/SEM_1.amw> -- Sent from: http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/ ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command.
