2010 CONFERENCE ANNOUNCEMENT & CALL FOR PAPERS

The 24th annual meeting of ASSESS, the PASW/SPSS Users' Group, will take
place on
Friday 15th October  2010 in the Alcuin Research Resource Centre,
University of York.
We are also aiming to again have two half-day workshops on Thursday 14th
October 2010
(ie the day before) at the same venue.

The committee welcomes contributions on PASW (formerly known as
SPSS)-related topics from all
academic and professional fields, particularly software demonstrations
and case studies (particularly in medicine, marketing, business and the
environment), using
graphics such as PASW (formerly SPSS) Chart Builder, practical PASW/SPSS
syntax tips, GIS Maps,
statistical analyses such as multilevel modelling and analysis of
variance applied in PASW/SPSS, survey work,
utility related analyses, data mining, perhaps, using Clementine,
teaching using PASW/SPSS,
practical examples of using OMS, syntax, macros, Python and/or R with
PASW/SPSS,
performing bootstrapping and simulations in PASW/SPSS, handling messy
data, spreadsheet management,
tips on using PASW/SPSS and experience using PASW/SPSS products/procedures.
We would also be interested in anyone who might be interested in leading
a workshop
(either a discussion group on any aspect of PASW/SPSS on the Friday or a
lab session on the Thursday) .

Normally 35 minutes is allowed (including some time for questions).
Speakers do
not pay the conference fee and may claim expenses.

If you would like to give a paper or run a "hands on" SPSS/PASW session
or discussion
group (or even if you think you might but are not yet sure or would like
to know more),
please contact the meeting organiser, Peter Watson (see below).
A printable form is provided for your convenience.

The Alcuin Research Resource Centre (ARRC) is at the University campus
located in Heslington,
2 miles to the south-east of the city centre. It takes 10-15 minutes in
a taxi from the
railway station. Buses also go to the University
(See http://www.york.ac.uk/admin/security/transport/bus.html).
University Parking and location details are at
http://www.york.ac.uk/np/maps/.
Accommodation is bookable via tourist information on (01904) 621756 or
(01904) 554455.

The meeting's open to all current users of PASW/SPSS and anyone
interested in PASW/SPSS.

* hear PASW/SPSS users talk about applications, problems and solutions
* hear the latest news from PASW/SPSS UK staff about product developments
* participate in discussions raised by the talk topics
