A one day SPSS syntax course (comprising two distinct half-day workshops) and two other parallel half-day workshops together with a day of SPSS User presentations are provisionally planned to be held at the Alcuin Research Resource Centre,
University of York, on Friday 25th October 2013. Two workshops will run in parallel from 10am to (approx) 12-45pm and two further SPSS workshops from 1-50pm to (approx) 4-30pm. The 27th Users group meeting illustrating SPSS applications by users will run,

a Chartered Psychologist. Darren Walker, an experienced SPSS syntax user and lecturer in research methods, of Cardiff Metropolitan University, will lead the afternoon session ‘Writing and Using SPSS syntax: Next step’ which will look at how SPSS syntax can
be used to incorporate features into statistical analyses such as AN(C)OVA and Factor Analysis. Elizabeth Wiredu who has extensive experience teaching a range of statistical methods to clinicians will lead the ‘Correlation & Regression in SPSS’ workshop which
will look at aspects of modelling using linear regression. Kevin Ralston of the University of St Andrews, who will lead the SPSS Multilevel workshop, teaches the application of multilevel models at Essex summer schools and has used these in various publications.
This workshop is aimed at beginners new to this exciting and rapidly expanding area of analysis. The booking fee includes a coffee break mid-workshop but not overnight accommodation. A buffet lunch is available and is included for those attending both a morning and an afternoon event. Further details will be sent to delegates upon
receipt of booking forms. Come along to: * obtain training in using SPSS and R from experienced tutors who are fellow users * learn about statistical methods used for data analysis in SPSS and R * exchange ideas with other SPSS users * plan for an even better user group and suggest events for 2014 The venue for both the workshops and user (presentations) meeting is the Alcuin Research Resource
