AW: Re: AW: language to filter

Jara Kampmann-2
David, I've been criticized in nicer ways, but surely it is not in my interest to spread nonsense. So for my next posting I will wait till I have the possibility to look up my suggestions.

Best Jara

"I guess what went wrong in the syntax you have sent is that <> only works
for numerical vars but not for string. Because what shall "smaller and
bigger" mean when it comes to string variables. So if you want to express
"not equal to" rather use ~= or != or ne. "..."Hope my suggestions are not
nonsense and help"...

Jara,
Not to be rude, but your suggestion is COMPLETE NONSENSE!!!
"Because what shall "smaller and bigger" mean"...
Look up the terms Collation? Alphabetization...?
a<>b!!!
<> is equivalent to NE , !=, ~=...
a < b < c < A < B ... < Z etc.
I guess?????? <> ANSWER!

Re: AW: Re: AW: language to filter

Daniel J. Robertson
Note the following from the "Universals" section of the v.19 syntax guide:

"For string values, 'less than' and 'greater than' results can vary by locale even for the same
set of characters, since the national collating sequence is used. Language order, not ASCII
order, determines where certain characters fall in the sequence."
