Adjusting Number of Columns for Set of Variables With Syntax

Feinstein, Zachary

I cannot recall the exact syntax command in SPSS that lets one adjust the number of columns displayed in the Data View.

I am able to manually adjust the number of columns for any given variable (one at a time) directly in Variable View.  But it does not save out the syntax to do this in the .jnl file (the journal file saved in my options).

I THINK I worked with a previous set of code that had a very simple statement, but I cannot remember what it was.  Please let me know.

Thank you.

Zachary

Re: Adjusting Number of Columns for Set of Variables With Syntax

Peck, Jon

VARIABLE WIDTH specifies the column width for the display of variables in the Data Editor. It has no effect on the format of the variable or the display of the variable or values in other windows or printed results.

Basic Specification

The basic specification is a variable name and a positive integer in parentheses for the column width. Column width for proportional fonts is based on average character width. Depending on the characters used in the value, more or fewer characters may be displayed in the specified width.

HTH,

Jon Peck
