Dear fellow list members,
I hope that my question counts as technical enough, but this has been driving me quietly mad for years! I have been an SPSS user since 1990, in the old days of PC+ and syntax commands, and have taught SPSS data entry and basic statistical analysis since then. In the good old days, one could easily alter the data entry direction from down the columns to across the rows. As a social researcher, I am forever entering my data in across rows, as are the research students I teach. From SPSS 6 onwards we have been stuck with either using the enter key to go down the columns, or the right cursor arrow key to go across the rows. This puts a strain on the thumb, and does not strike me as very ergonomic. Am I missing something? Is there any wasy way to change the data entry direction of the enter key? I have recently sent a message to the CHEST-SPSS list, and the Transpose command was put forward as a possible solution. This is good, but leads to the loss of all value labels etc etc. Hoping that you can advise? How about left-pinky tab--gives you something to do with the left hand;-)
If you are doing serious data entry, how SPSS Data Entry which not only goes across and down but also has cursor momentum and comes with all sorts of tools to do data checking and cleaning? -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Lisles C A (HESAS) Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2006 12:35 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Advice: Changing the direction of data entry?
