Hello,
After discovering a dozon-or-so bugs in SPSS 16 for Mac, I posted an open letter to SPSS Inc. The gist of it is that I have never felt this insulted by a commercial piece of software before. Maybe you woud like to read it: http://myowelt.blogspot.com/2008/03/spss-16-for-mac-insulting-users-open.html (the list of bugs is a bit further down the post, just after my rants on the user interface on the Mac) Cheers, Bertolt -- Bertolt Meyer Senior Assistant Psychological Institute, University of Zurich Social Psychology Binzmühlestr. 14, Box 15 CH-8050 Zurich Switzerland bmeyer [at] sozpsy [dot] uzh [dot] ch ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. Bertolt,
Please allow me to address some of the issues you mentioned: · SPSS is planning a SPSS 16.0.2 point release in mid-April, 2008. This scheduled point release will be a free incremental update to SPSS 16.0 and is intended for users of SPSS 16.0.1. Updates included in the release are bug fixes and improvements to the performance and usability of SPSS 16.0 on all supported desktop and server platforms. All patches, updates, hot fixes and point releases can be found at http://support.spss.com/. · Also, have you reported this issues you found to Tech Support ([hidden email])? If not can you please do so, as this will get it into the system so we can track these issues. · Additionally, please allow me to extend the offer for you to beta test future versions of SPSS. While we do extensive internal and external testing we can always use more testers. · With regard to the interface, SPSS 16 has a Java interface which is common across all platforms. This allows us to simultaneously release SPSS on Mac, Linux and Windows · Lastly, you mention R, one of the new features in SPSS 16 is an R plugin which is available for free at http://www.spss.com/devcentral/. This allows SPSS users to run R packages as part of the SPSS syntax job. Regards. Kyle Weeks, Ph.D. Director of Product Management, SPSS Product Line Product Management SPSS Inc. Hi all,
The following syntax runs very well on SPSS v6 but not suitable for newer versions. Much appreciate if anyone could tell how to use Ctables for the same result: DATA LIST LIST /s1 to s3. BEGIN DATA 2 1 2 2 3 1 4 1 6 5 1 9 4 1 4 4 1 2 4 1 6 4 1 4 4 1 3 4 1 5 3 1 4 2 1 3 2 3 6 2 1 2 2 1 6 5 1 6 2 1 2 2 1 4 2 2 4 2 1 9 2 3 9 END DATA. TABLES /TABLES s1 + s2 + s3 by (labels)>(STATISTICS) /STATISTICS Cpct ((F5.2) '') / TITLE='TABS FOR S1-S3'. Thank you very much, Hop ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. The place to start is with the tables syntax converter. There is a script installed with SPSS that you can run from Utilities>Run Script called Syntax Converter. That will convert your Tables code to Ctables. With the example below, it is not hard to convert it manually if you already know Ctables, but the script should do this for you.
