If I want to know which particular  factors of an( five factor and total amout) assessment tool are related to overall outcomes (related to the assessment tool itself), how would I go about this?

If i understand your question, you want to know how well the pretest factors relate to a summative score based on those factors.

One way would be to treat the 5 factors as items in a RELIABILITY to look at internal consistency.
