AnswerTree Module - Categories for Dep Var

Brian Moore-3
Hi all-

I'm using this module and can't figure out why I am unable to use the
categories button in the main tree window.  Documentation was helpful on
other things I can't do as a result of not specifying categories, but I
found it to be sparse in solving my issue.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Brian

ViAnn Beadle
What is the level of measurement of your dependent variable? It probably has
to be nominal or ordinal.

Does this shed any light on the problem:

Categories and Value Labels
This dialog box requires defined value labels for the dependent variable. It is not available unless at least two values of the categorical dependent variable have defined value labels. See To Specify Value Labels for more information.

How is your DV defined - Variable type? Remember, the variable measurement
level *must* be set appropriately for the Classification Tree to work
properly.

Thanks for the suggestions Jim, ViAnn & Statman.

I had tried this using variables defined both nominally & ordinally and
with and without value labels.

Beyond that I'm at a loss.

Maybe it is possible to incorporate the commands into the syntax even if
not available in the GUI in this case?

Re: AnswerTree Module - Categories for Dep Var

Oliver, Richard
Yes, you can paste the syntax and then add the necessary subcommand:

 /DEPCATEGORIES TARGET=[value, value, etc.]

(and using the syntax method, the dependent variable doesn't need to have defined value labels)
