I'm looking for users of SPSS-X on VMS/VAX that could help me with some file conversions. We have some old SPSS 4.1 System files that need to be exported to the portable format so we can read it on our SPSS v18 for Linux. We haven't had a chance to get the export done before our VAX crashed for good. Any help would be appreciated.

If you do not get a response from someone who has their VAX up and
running in a few days let me know. My VAX is in the basement and was working the last time I looked. I do not have a tape Drive but IIRC I do have a CD drive. What media are your files on? Also, there is a VAX emulator for older windows. I ASSUME that there is one for the various Unices and hope there is one for WINDOWS 7. I expect to see someone this weekend who should know. I know of someone I paid a few years ago to copy VAX Backup Magtapes to disk files. At that time I copied them as VAX backup save sets to XP. I still have not had time to see if there is a Windows 7 version of the VAX emulator. I had the same problem a while back and got an
offer from an outfit in Aylesbury (UK) to convert tapes. In the end I
didn't need them as my files had been lost forever because my institution binned
everything before 1986. The only files I managed to recover had been
deposited with the UK Data Archive at Essex or continued in use after
1986.
If you need the name of the outfit I can dig it
out. Some files wer recovered by changing the extension.
