Dartmouth is seeking an experienced individual to fill the position of Assistant Director for Systems and Reporting within the Office of Institutional Research. The Assistant Director for Systems and Reporting develops, plans, designs, and implements the data systems employed by Institutional Research in support of the institutionâs planning and decision making processes; responsible for survey sampling strategies for the entire institution; produces standard IR reports; and responds to ad hoc internal and external data requests. The position has major responsibilities for systems efficiencies and data quality assurance for both the Office and the institution. The Assistant Director for Systems and Reporting is responsible for multiple products and projects in the Office. Key Accountabilities - Systems development and maintenance ⢠Leads OIRâs institution-wide survey sampling service function and serves the entire College by providing sampling expertise and support ⢠Plans, designs, develops, and implements the IR student data mart in collaboration with Administrative Computing, which supports data needs of OIR and various other offices on campus. ⢠As the principal advisor to the Director in systems issues, Assistant Director for Information and Systems makes recommendations on strategic directions of the office in terms of OIR data structures and schemas. ⢠Works with the Director in planning the budget for systems and technology and responsible for investigation of, advising on, and acquiring of software and hardware needs for the office. ⢠Active participation on a number of campus committees and working groups; Plays a leading role in many of them as the OIR systems representative. ⢠Identifies, advises on and helps implement improvements in OIR data resources and report production processes in order to help assure that OIR, as the Office of Record and the Chief Information Clearing House for the College, is at an appropriate state of the art and level of efficiency. ⢠Provides systems support to OIR in order to assure that accurate institutional data are available in an efficient and timely manner for senior officers, trustees, and faculty committees. ⢠Helps to ensure data integrity and consistency across multiple institutional data systems (HRMS, Banner) through systems design, planning and data cleaning/reconciliation. ⢠Creates and manages the OIR data mart tables and Oracle views; responsible for OIR use of Banner and HR data. ⢠Oversees quality control for OIR in the acquisition of data and its presentation. ⢠Provides systems support to OIRâs Campus Survey Program. ⢠Accesses institutional databases (especially Banner and HRMS) for data required to perform OIRâs functions. ⢠Implements quality control activities for data used by OIR and works with other offices to resolve data inconsistencies. ⢠Works with Administrative Computing and systems personnel in various offices on campus to assure timely, consistent, and complete data across data systems. - Information provision ⢠Produces standard internal data reportsâe.g., Dashboards, Employee and Student Censuses, Fact Book, Perspectives on Dartmouth. ⢠Produces data for responding to external data requestsâe.g., IPEDS, COFHE CIPP, guidebooks. ⢠Responds to requests for information from senior officers, trustees, and faculty committees in consultation with Director. ⢠Identifies OIR staff systems training needs, and opportunities for such training. ⢠Works with Director to identify data to inform and evaluate Dartmouthâs diversity agenda. Position Requirements - Skills & Knowledge ⢠Strong systems skills and knowledge of Oracle databases. ⢠Ability to work with multiple data systems and large databases. ⢠Ability to work well with people from a variety of offices, and with a broad range of data sophistication. ⢠Ability to work with highly confidential data. ⢠Attention to detail and quality control ⢠Ability to work as a member of a team, and to work independently. ⢠Strong planning and time management skills. ⢠Knowledge of data warehouses and report production. ⢠Ability to foster consensus regarding systems and reporting practices. - Experience ⢠Three years of systems development (or its equivalent) with masterâs degree; five years of systems experience with bachelorâs degree. ⢠Experience with relational databases (Oracle). ⢠Project management experience. ⢠Experience with SQL Plus. ⢠Knowledge of SAS (or willingness to learn). ⢠Experience in an institution of higher education is highly desirable. - Education ⢠Bachelorâs degree required. ⢠Masterâs degree preferred. ⢠A degree in systems or computing is desirable. - Salary range: $70,000 - $85,000 dependent on qualifications and experience.
