Even better,
Attach a few rows in a SAV file after reordering and pruning as previously instructed. Just the relevant variables and a problematic case with a detailed description of how/why it is a problem and how it could be corrected "manually". At first mention, the "proband" is a mother.
There is a measure on which the proband's caregiver reports her total #of
pregnancies, each birth year associated with that pregnancy, and health variables for the newborn. The caregiver can report up to 12 pregnancies
At later mention, the "proband" is a baby.
This is because any of the 12
PREGYEARS could be the proband.
Until you figure out what you mean by proband, the rest will not
make much sense to me.

I don't think I said the proband was the mother.
The proband is a child (w/ a neurological disorder). Most measures are self report, some are parent-report. One of the parent report measures is the questionnaire on which mother reports on her pregnancies. Hence one of the reported pregnancies includes data on the proband while the others his/her sibs. I will post the pared file to illustrate my GD problem and I will endeavor to make it razor sharp and clear. -- Sent from: http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/ ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. This is PRECISELY it, Eugene.
In regards to your questions: I have already computed what you request as a first step and this is exactly where I am now stuck. The previous wisdom from the board allowed me to compute these variables and to clear up (with study personnel) some of the multiple year or no year matches already (data entry errors). That was one purpose. Now I am at the point you describe. See attached output and I think you will see what I mean. example.doc <http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/file/t340857/example.doc> -- Sent from: http://spssx-discussion.1045642.n5.nabble.com/ ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. "I don't think I said the proband was the mother."
Sorry, my mistake. In my vocabulary, the "caregiver" is a
professional - the doctor, nurse, or social worker who is filling
out the form.
In yours, "caregiver" is an euphemism for "mother" which should
lead to "no match" if the caregiver is not the mother.
