CTABLEs dialog to syntax and back

Moon Kid
I have a question about the GUI of SPSS.

I can create CTABLEs with a really nice dialog in it. And from out if
it I can create the syntax-code with the Insert-Button in it. Great!
And I can alter the table on and on again and create new syntax-code
out from it. But it work only for one table.

I create more than one CTABLEs with it and saving the syntax of them.
Then I figuring out that something is wrong with the first CTABLE. So I
want to change something in it.

Of course I can touch the syntax-code itself. But maybe there are some
users that are not so easy with the syntax.

How can they "refill" this syntax-code in a CTABLE-dialog. Other
words: How can I re-create a CTABLE-dialog from existing CTABLE-code?

I hope you can understand my bad english with it.

Is it possible?

Re: CTABLEs dialog to syntax and back

It is not possible to re-populate the dialogs based on command syntax. It is basically a one-way operation: Dialogs can create command syntax, but command syntax cannot make dialog selections.

Going from syntax back to the creating dialog would be wonderful, but unfortunately it is not possible.   Except for a few special situations, such as database queries and text file specifications and a few procedures that create xml plan files, it is only one way: from dialog to syntax.

You can build syntax that has plug-in parts that refer to macros, so they can be changed centrally, or you can do this with programmability, but you have to figure out what to parameterize.
