Are you using the GUI or syntax? We need more info if we are to help. There are some tutorials on my website explaining how to create new variables such as total scores using COMPUTE. They're in syntax which is a lot easier and quicker than point-and-click.

I'm a beginner in this game and really need some help. I am trying to
calculate total scores, but keep getting "variable name contains illegal
character." I have of course checked if they do but can't find any mistakes
according to the rules for naming variables.
As I am Norwegian I have aslo tried to change the names from krøv1 to krov1
and so on, but this is still not working, this is also the first time I've
met this problem so far.
I will be very thankful for all the help I can get:)
