The inaugural lecture for the (UK) Campaign for Social Science by David Willetts (Minister of State for Universities and Science) is worth watching by anyone who cares about (availability of) social science data and researchers who know how to design, collect and analyse them.

Willetts is saying now what Mark Abrams and I advocated in the 1970s, but SSRC was terrified of seeming dirigiste.  How things change, and what a great development.
