I set the syntax editor panel in edit options as follows: uncheck everything
on the right hand side (auto complete, gutter, panes). I also fixed up the
left hand panes also but it doesn't seem like those settings would affect
the error pane. But maybe they do. I also closed the error pane window in a
syntax file that I had opened through spss. No more error panes for me.
Earlier this week somebody was commenting on the error pane opening when the
started spss by double-clicking on a syntax file name. That continues to
happen for me also. But, it is also not an issue for me because I never
(truly never, not just quote-quote never) open files that way.

Dear all,
For some time, I've been trying to get rid of the error pane in the syntax
window of V17. However, like the alien in a bad B-movie, no matter what I
do, it keeps coming back. I've had my version patched up to v17.03 and
(obviously) unticked 'automatically open...'.
In every syntax file -new or existing- I must manually liberate myself from
the error pane.
Is there no way whatsoever to get rid of it once and for all?
