Can't Copy Output from SPSS Smart Viewer

Hello,

I have recently upgraded to SPSS 24 on a Windows 10 operating system.

However, I have many .spo files (produced by versions of SPSS 15 and earlier) that I still need to have access to. More specifically, I need to be able to copy and paste the .spo output tables into Excel.

I was happy when I discovered the SPSS Legacy Viewer (SPSS 15.0 Smart Viewer Release 15.0.1 (22 Nov 2006)). I have installed this program and I can view my .spo files with ease, however I can not copy from it.

More specifically, as soon as I click copy/cut, an “SPSS has stopped working” window pops up, and then my only option is to close the SPSS Legacy Viewer.

I have reinstalled the program about five times (I have downloaded the viewer from different universities). All downloads are the same release and results in the same problem for me.

Has anyone come across this problem or might have another solution? I don’t think there are other ways to copy/convert .spo files.

I’ve fiddled with “running as administrator” and it seems to work. In no way am I an operating system expert, but I must have tweaked the right setting somehow.

Others suggested to tell Win 10 to run this app in compatibility mode. Either way, it does appear that you need to relax the file system restrictions.
