Can't activate pivot tables

SPSS 14 for Windows.

When I try to activate most pivot tables, by double-clicking, I get a
message box, "Failed to create object. Make sure the object is
entered in the system registry". I can activate Title and Log tables,
but I think that's all.

(I do use draft output a lot, but I think regular output has worked
for me before.)

I got an off-list response (thanks!) suggesting,

>The Pivot Table Editor may need to be reregistered. Try rereg.bat
>which is in the SPSS directory. I am reaching back into memory on this one.

That suggestion had just the right sound, but running rereg.bat from
the SPSS 14 directory, and rebooting, didn't change anything.

This really does sound like barking up the right tree, though.
Further thoughts are extremely welcome.
