Can't see all my variables

Cynlulu
Hello,
I'm a grad student desperately trying to complete my thesis but it seems I am having trouble with the basics of SPSS. I have 150 variables (set up in this particular file by a professor) but every time I open the file only 26 variables appear. All my respondents show in the data view--my problem is with the variable view. When I "get info" (use a Mac) on the file, the properties show there are 150 variables in the file but once I actually open it and select the "variables" button, only 26 show. I have one idea what to do....any advice is much appreciated! I've Googled it...played around with different buttons (on a copied version-original file intact) to no avail. I'm using a student version--could that have something to do with it?

The SPSS Student Version has a four-year license code and is for student home use only. It allows up to 50 variables and 1,500 cases.

The data dropdown menu in the Student Version does not contain the Restructure, Merge Files or Aggregate Options. This version is unable to read SPSS/Statistics command syntax, and scripting and automation capabilities are unavailable. Add-on modules cannot be used with this package. If you require use of one of these options you should purchase the SPSS/Statistics Graduate Pack.

In SPSS/Statistics 11 and later, the full version of SPSS/Statistics Base and the SPSS/Statistics Graduate Pack are not limited in the number or cases or variables that can be used in the program.
