I’m producing some charts comparing mean scores on three self-reported well-being scales across 5-year age groups, but the first colour is always a rather pasty pale beige which doesn’t show up against the other lines in green, blue or magenta. It took me over two hours to get even these, but although I’ve been trying for ages, I can’t find any way in the Chart Builder or the Command Syntax Reference to change the default or priority colours of bars, slices or lines in charts. I managed to work out how to use mean (<var>) in GRAPH commands graph /line (multple) = mean (happy) mean (satis) mean (worth) By agegrp . but I can’t for the life of me do it for the PLT or PGT subcommands. I need charts (simple, stacked or grouped) which display the % scoring 0-4 and % scoring 9-10 across age and other demographic groups. How do I get PLT (X) into a line of syntax for % < 5 on happy? All my efforts to date have resulted in error messages. All I want is a simple bit of syntax to list colours in order of priority. Am I looking in the wrong place? Thanks in advance to ViAnn, Jon (with no “h”) and all you other experts for your always appreciated, and keenly awaited, advice and help. Oh, and whilst I’m at it, is there any way to suppress the display of outliers on the boxplots? John F Hall (Mr) Email: [hidden email] Website: www.surveyresearch.weebly.com |
The default color cycle is defined within the base chart template. To override via syntax you have the choice of using the map() function within GPL or editing the xml in the default template (keep the original because this will probably take several iterations to get right). There are other alternative methods but not via syntax. Checkout Edit>Options>Charts and Click on the Colors button. This will change all future charts unless explicitly overwritten by the next approach: Edit a chart in the chart editor, change the colors, save a template, and then name that template in your syntax when generating new charts. Re: problems with PLT. You can generate correct syntax via the Graphs>Legacy Dialogs>Bars dialog. Here’s an example: GRAPH /BAR(GROUPED)=PGT(1)(thnkself) BY region BY gender.
