I've had v19 installed for a few minutes now, and already have my first question. The university also provided us with the patch to 19.0.0.1, which I installed. Just in case another patch is available by now, the first thing I did after launching was click on Help - Check for updates. In v18 and earlier, this would take one to a website that indicated whether the latest patches were installed *for the version one was running*, whatever that might be. In v19, I am taken to a site that tells me only that v20 is available. But I see nothing that tells me whether I have the most recent patch for v19. So, what is the most recent patch for v19? And can one find that info somewhere without having to first remember (or find) a login ID and password?
Thanks, Bruce

Hey Bruce,
I just got 19 recently and there is a 19.0.0.2 and a 'hot fix', if I recall correctly. The ibm website is (in the spirit of DM) the absolutely most @$%^&*-&& thing I have ever seen. That said (and it can't be said enough), the key piece of information is that you have to tell the website that you now have version 19.0.0.1 and, at least for us, we could then see that there was a second patch. Oh yes, there is also cryptic descriptions of the patches. I think there are five or six listed. Not much luck so far, but I did find this at https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg24028679:
NOTE: This "FixPack" [i.e., SPSS Statistics 19.0 Fix Pack 1] should not be confused with any earlier "HotFixes" made available via the legacy IBM SPSS Support website. In the transition from SPSS to IBM versioning nomenclature, an additional number was added. For example, the original Statistics 19 release would have been "19.0.0" -- it is now "19.0.0.0". Thus, under the new numbering scheme, the Statistics "19.0.0.1 FixPack" is what would have been known before the transition as the Statistics "19.0.1 Patch". This could cause some confusion because prior to the full transition, SPSS had made available several "HotFixes" that had been numbered 19.0.0.1 through 19.0.0.9, including a separate HotFix "Bundle" that contained HotFixes 19.0.0.1 through 19.0.0.6. Under the new numbering scheme, these would have been designated 19.0.0.0.1 through 19.0.0.0.9. The 19.0.0.1 FixPack contains all of these earlier HotFixes, as well as other corrected issues, and can be installed over any of the earlier HotFixes with no conflict. ----------------- So, is my 19.0.0.1 fully up-to-date or not? I can't tell!

Thanks Roger. That (eventually) takes me to a page for IBM SPSS Statistics 19.0 Fix Pack 1 Interim Fix 3 (IF003). Here's the description:
"An issue has been identified in Statistics 19.0 where after a sort procedure, incorrect data is displayed and can be saved to the file." The installation instructions seem more hands-on than normal too: Installation Windows 1. Unzip the zip file containing this hotfix to any directory. Make a note of the directory path in which you unzipped the file, you'll need it in step 5. 2. Close all Statistics 19 instances. 3. Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the SPSS Statistics 19 install directory. 4. Make a copy of the old files (SPSSClientUIu.jar and SPSSClientUI.jar) using Windows Explorer (Select the file in Windows Explorer, then select Edit -> Copy. Then select Edit -> Paste) Do this for both files. 5. Open a Windows Explorer window for the directory in step 1 (the directory contains the patch files) 6. Replace the jar files within the Statistics 19.0.0 installation with the files unzipped in step 1. Finally, in order to actually download the file, one must log in. I've never understood why that is necessary. It just erects a hurdle that many people will not bother climbing over, IMO. (Has anyone ever done a survey to find out what proportion of SPSS users just carry on with the initial, unpatched release?)

Hi Bruce
That is the same response i get everyday from users unfortunately there is no way around it. Luckily version 20.0 is out (or almost out) and it solves all version 19.0 headaches. Regards, Roger

If this is the same response you get from users every day, then wouldn't it make sense to address the issue. Are you saying that Version 20.0 is going to be perfect from the start and never require a patch or a user to have to log on to the website?

Apologies to those of you who may get this
twice, My original note seems to have gotten bounced.
I cannot really comment on Roger's statements below, as he not from IBM. Statistics 20 is now available. Statistics 20 may be available generally, but will not be available (via site license) at my university until a year from now. We only got v19 a few days ago, and are always one version behind. I should probably apologize in advance for moaning about things that many of you were moaning about several months ago. ;-)
