Hello,
I'm wondering if there is any syntax that can produce the outcome I'm looking for: I have a data set in which each respondent provides information about up to 3 partners. The questions asked about each of these partners are the same (e.g., how old is the partner, where did you meet them, etc). In the dataset, each of the variables for each partner is separate. For example, I have a separate variable for "how old is partner 1", "how old is partner 2" and "how old is partner 3". I would like to be able to analyze these variables with the data for partner 1, 2, and 3 combined for each variable. For example, I'd like to be able to analyze how old partners were as a whole, rather than separately for partners 1, 2, and 3. Right now, when I run frequencies I have separate frequencies for each variable for partner 1, 2, and 3. I'd like to get an overall frequency, without manually adding the frequencies together for each partner. Is there a way to do this in SPSS? Thanks in advance! Hi Heather,
There are two ways how to handle it: 1) Using multiple response (see Analyze -> Multiple response): define sets of similar variables and get tables for the whole sets 2) Restructuring of the data (see Data -> Restructure...): Each respondent will have up to 3 rows in the transformed data, according to the number of his/her partners. Then you can use standard techniques of tabelation.
