Comparing generations in psychology

kate-2
Hallo, I am not friendly with SPSS so I will be really glad if anyone could
help me. I am doing research comparing 2 generations, so there are 2
samples. Both generations were asked equal questions, for example: "What was
your favorite Sport in youth?" There are 4 answers - soccer, hockey etc (i
guess it is the weakest scale). There are about 15 questions. How can I see,
if there are any differences between 2 generations? Thanks.

Are any of the members of one generation related to members of the other generation?  How were the samples obtained?

Not to harsh your buzz, *BUT*
How would you approach this if you didn't have SPSS?
In other words, this is not a question specific to SPSS but a general issue of analytical methods independent of any specific software!  Please review your class notes on t-test, ANOVA, Chi Square and measurement theory WRT measurement levels etc.
Differences between generations is a rather nebulous construct!

Have look at the SPSS tutorials on my site.  They start with a short
questionnaire and show how to code the answers, transfer the data into SPSS,
and then do some analysis using frequency counts and crosstabulations.

After that you can possibly create a few indices by combining variables and
comparing generations.  You can use t-test to compare means (only two groups
to compare) and crosstabs to compare distributions (using chi-square).

Do you have a copy of your questionnaire (in English) you can send me
(off-list) so I can get a better idea of your data?  Also, if you can send
me a copy of your *.sav file I can help you even more, but if this is a
project for college, I can show you what you can do, but you'll have to do
the work yourself.
