Compute Mean Output Interpretation

Leslie-26
Can someone help me understand what to do with the output from the
following syntax (both embedded below)?  I have a 10 item scale and will
keep a record if the respondent answered 8 or more of the items.  The
output with multiple listings of the same value is not clear to me ( two
1's, eight 2's, etc), nor how to work with this in later analysis.  Do I
need to recode? If so, how?
Thanks for your assistance,
Leslie

Re: Compute Mean Output Interpretation

Hector Maletta
         Leslie,
I think the scale has been formatted to be seen with zero decimals,
and thus the various integers appear several times because each corresponds
to a different decimal (i.e. the various 2s are something like 2.25, 2.40,
2.33, etc.). Try inserting FORMAT S3QB (F8.2) after the COMPUTE command: the
frequency distribution will probably show clearly the frequency of each
fractional value of the scale.
If this does not work, call again.

         Hector
