Compute : using Functions and Functions groups

I want to know how to use the functions specified while computing new variable. Is there materials or links to get to know more about the functions in built in spss while computing.

type "functions" (without the quotes) in the edit box
click <go>

That comes up in a rather unfriendly verbose format.
I personally prefer the PDF format:
For version 21:  See Universals section in particular pg 173-227.
