Connecting to a database using ODBC

sam.maldonado

Hi all,

I am having issues with getting SPSS Statistics 20 (Mac OSX 10.8) to interact with/select data from an external MySQL database, and I was hoping someone could shed some light on it.

I’ve installed the ODBC drivers from actualtech*, iodbc, and the odbc manager. I set up my connection using the actualtech wizard, and confirmed it works using iodbc’s test tool. However, whenever I try to connect using the SPSS create new query wizard, I get this error:

sqldriverconnect failed: [iODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Driver could not be loaded

I’ve tried googling it, changing my odbc.ini file, changing paths, and so forth, without luck. I figure the workaround must be fairly simple and I’m missing something. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on, or what I might try next?

Thanks!

Sam

*I also tried installing drivers directly from http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/, but had issues installing.
