I can't say what happened in version 17, but there are a variety of
screen print programs that can take a snapshot of a region of the
screen. I use a commercial product, SnagIt, but there are some free
alternatives out there as well.
These programs produce bitmaps (BMP), which sometimes don't scale as
well as windows metafiles (WMF), but I've found they work fine for any
reasonable rescaling.
