This more to do with the original thread for Reverse engineering from *.sav to sps

But applies equally to items relating to British Social Attitudes

Tony Babinec’s suggested solution is brilliant! I downloaded the trial version of Stat/Transfer
[ http://www.stattransfer.com/downloads/windows_mac_linux_downloads.html ] and ran it on the single case cumulative BSA file Jon Peck requested [off-line] to investigate the recode bug in SPSS23 and 24. The resultant SPSS setup file was instantaneous (blink and you miss it). All I have to do now is plough through 103,591 lines of syntax to edit/extract what I need! I don’t need the original 80-column data, but it wasn’t in the output anyway.
If I get bogged down, I’m sure Jon Peck will ride to the rescue, Python rope in hand, but, if it takes longer than the trial period to sort out, who will reimburse the $179 to purchase the one-off lifetime licence for the software?
There is already a password-protected beta version of the cumulative file in which I have already processed around 4,000 of almost 11,000 variables. On provision of proof that they are currently registered users of the UK Data Service, and on condition that they will not supply copies of the file to anyone else, would-be users can access the file via a Dropbox link.

The 3rd party product Stat/Transfer from Circle Systems will take
an IBM SPSS Statistics SAV file and “convert” it to “SPSS Program
+ Ascii data.” As an example, I took “census_small.sav” from the
training materials and converted it. It is a push-button operation.
