Can you be specific about what you want to do . Regards. Nii,
I can some this up in 1 word: DON'T. Excel is a spread sheet. It may be a good spread sheet. But it is NOTa data analysis package. There are many other options available. SPSS, obviously, SAS, Stata,. There are also some things you can pick up on the web for low or no cost. Most do the math correctly but you pay for options and ease of use. As Ed said, if you can be more specific, we might be able to give you a better sense of what you need. If you know what you need to do, go to the library and get a basic book on SPSS, SAS, etc.. Even a cursory review should give you a sense of whether or not the program has the features you need. I get the sense that you are taking about survey item scoing/analysis. Is this true? Raynauld Levesque has some great information about how to use SPSS to manage survey items within SPSS. http://www.spsstools.net/ Mark *************************************************************************************************************************************************************** Mark A. ProgId Word.Document Generator Microsoft Word 11 Originator Microsoft Word 11 Mark: This really does depend on which kind of statistics a person needs. For descriptive statistics, Excel does enough for most needs. Inferential is, of course, very weak.
I' m a long-term SPSS user, though nowhere near as intense a user as most of you. When I did a presentation at a conference two years ago, several of those attending asked about using Excel instead of SPSS. Since then, I have discovered that -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Mark A Davenport MADAVENP Sent: Friday, September 08, 2006 10:44 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [SPSSX-L] Data Analysis using Microsoft Office Excel 2003 Nii, I can some this up in 1 word: DON'T. Our office is thinking of upgrading from 12 to 14 but have no idea if
there are any problems. I asked before and was told to wait for 15. Is 15 near being available? If so, how is it compared to 12. I would go to V15 which is available so call SPSS. There were major
advancements made between V12 & V15 so, IMHO, skip V14 S -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of O'Connor, Patricia (OTDA) Sent: Monday, October 16, 2006 2:50 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Upgrade from 12 to 14 or wait? You can see a version comparison at the SPSS website:
http://www.spss.com/software_version/index.cfm?product=base If you select Version 14, you will see information about 14 and 15. If you select Version 12, you will see information about versions from 12 through 15 (etc.) Melissa -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of King Douglas Sent: Monday, October 16, 2006 3:54 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [SPSSX-L] Upgrade from 12 to 14 or wait? The Beta of 15 was impressive. I would also advise moving to 15 rather
than 14. Has anybody actually received v15? Has it been shipped?
