Using 20, I can't/don't know how to get what you see. I defined 5 variables, 2 numeric, 3 string. All had variable labels and the numeric had value labels and missing values. When I switched to dataview, I did not see question marks; I saw a blank spreadsheet page. I typed in data and tabbed to the next column. I have no idea what's wrong. What kind of variables are you defining; what are the formats? Does the problem persist after restarting spss? After restarting windows/mac?

Subject: Data view issues - URGENT help needed
Hey there,
As you can see in my username, I'm not exactly a friend of SPSS.
However, I've entered all my information into the variable view and when proceeding to enter the data on "Data View" all of my cells are filled with a question mark symbol.
I then go to enter a number into a cell but when I move away the error sound occurs and a question mark refills the cell.
I'm using SPSS 19.
Any ideas on what this is and how to fix it ?
Any help is great, it's for a report due on Monday
Chris
