Hi,
I searched the web for a copy of David Nichols catreg1.txt to catreg5.txt documents, but all the google results found only link to the defunct spss.com website. Have David's texts survived somewhere else ? I take it you found this old usenet thread in your searches:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.soft-sys.stat.spss/n_BUHQjOEIA What is your reason for wanting those old catreg files? There may well be a more convenient way to address your concerns than digging up those old files. If you're looking for reading material on interpretation of interactions in regression models, the book by Aiken & West is hard to beat, IMO. HTH.

If I am not mistaken, the files catreg1.txt to catreg5.txt correspond
to articles the Dave Nichols wrote for the SPSS newsletter "Keywords" back in 1995. These files are available on the following website: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/support/Stats/Docs/Statistics/Articles/ This page contains a list of files and catreg1 to catreg5 are provided as HTML files. NOTE: technically the link above is to a directory listing and not a bona fide webpage -- the homepage is that links to these files is actually the following: ftp://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/analytics/spss/support/Stats/Docs/Statistics/Articles/index.html This link is to the index.html file that is a legit webpage but the catreg files are not obvious from this page. So, check to see if the htm files in the first link are the ones you are looking for. And to Bruce, Dave agrees with you; see: http://www.verycomputer.com/121_892d830153c40d84_1.htm From his post (first one): |The Aiken and West book on interactions in regression is |worth looking at. :-) -Mike Palij New York University [hidden email] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Weaver" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, March 29, 2016 5:24 PM Subject: Re: David Nichols catreg1.txt to catreg5.txt >I take it you found this old usenet thread in your searches: > > > https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/comp.soft-sys.stat.spss/n_BUHQjOEIA > > What is your reason for wanting those old catreg files? It's all in the wrists, actually. ;-)
(1) do general Google search for catreg1 to catreg5. (2) Get lucky. (3) Look among your hits, examine the ones that are likely to payoff and then go to the one on IBM website: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21488369 (4) Since IBM took over SPSS, it is to be expected that IBM would tale files from the old www.spss.com to new locations IF they kepi them. This suggests going to the IBM SPSS website (e.g., above) and searching to see if they provide info on (a) whether the material is its database, and (b) what is the new address if IBM is still making the material publicly available. (5) It helps if you've been on the internet (ne arpanet) since the late 1980s. ;-) -Mike Palij New York University [hidden email] ----- Original Message ----- From: "news" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Wednesday, March 30, 2016 6:10 AM Subject: Re: David Nichols catreg1.txt to catreg5.txt > Thank you David, Mike and Bruce. > > But how did you find the articles ? > > - ftr > > On 30/03/2016 00:40, Bruce Weaver wrote: >> Thanks Mike--good sleuthing. >> >> >> Mike wrote >>> If I am not mistaken, the files catreg1.txt to catreg5.txt >>> correspond >>> to articles the Dave Nichols wrote for the SPSS newsletter >>> "Keywords" back in 1995.
