Yesterday I used Data >> Copy Data Set to produce *Untitled2.sav. For some reason my computer produced an additional series of duplicate files *Untitled3 to *Untitled7. The new files are not in the folder where I was working and I can’t delete them using the taskbar icons. The taskbar icon just changes from the standard SPSS one to what looks like a blue-striped cup and saucer with yellow fumes escaping. I can use File >> Save As to put any of them in my working folder. I want to delete them., but I don’t know where they live. Sorry, I don't understand your problem quite well. If these files are not saved could you not close them without saving? Or, if they are saved but you don't know where could you not search these files by their names (or extension, date and time) via File (Windows) Explorer? Windows Explorer was unable to find them using Search. Finished up closing them in the Task Manager, which closed SPSS down as well. On restart all is well, plus this morning there aren’t millions of kids screwing up the local (copper wire only) Internet at 11h00 on a Sunday morning. Can anyone explain why the icons changed to Java in the Taskbar window? Very weird. But remember that a dataset is not quite a file, although it is backed by a temporary file on disk. That file will be in your Statistics temporary directory but will not have a recognizable file name. If you haven't cleared your temporary directory in a while, it might be worth a visit. Statistics attempts to clean up temporary files from a session but cannot always do this. Look at the temporary directory location via Edit > Options > Files. In that location you will probably see entries like spss1180 under which there may be files or fragments of files. With Statistic closed, get rid of all those directories. If you get a message that some files can't be deleted because they are in use, then you have an invisible ghost Statistics session hanging around that should be killed via the Task Manager or by rebooting. New Statistics sessions should not be affected by old temporary file left around, but they are still clutter. On Mon, Mar 14, 2016 at 4:19 AM, John F Hall <[hidden email]> wrote:
