Epidemic of "Rejected posting to SPSSX-L..."

Richard Ristow
I've had a number of messages with that subject line and text including

>Your message is being returned to  you unprocessed because
>it  appears to have already been distributed to the SPSSX-L list.
>That is, a message with identical text (but  possibly with
>different  mail headers) has  been posted to the list recently

Since I'm getting these, I'm sure other posters are, too.

The message will list something you HAVE posted to SPSSX-L. Despite
the above message, your posting will have been distributed
successfully. The message reports a duplicate of your posting,
incorrectly sent back from some recipient site.

There have also been cases where the LISTSERV software didn't catch
the duplicate, and some postings have gone to the list twice - very
much, through no fault of the poster.

Our list administrator is working on the problem. In the meantime,
it's moderately annoying, but doesn't affect anything crucial on the list.

Good luck, and may you not see this message in duplicate!
Richard
