Having trouble opening into SPSS 15.01 excel files saved in the new version of Microsoft Office excel under the xlsx (rather than xls) format, anyone else having this problem or know of a work around, thanks.

Re: Excel version 2007 & SPSS 15

Oliver, Richard
SPSS 15 does not support the new Excel 2007 xlsx format (AFAIK, the new Excel format was not finalized at the time SPSS 15 was released). You can save Excel 2007 files in the older Excel 2003 xls format, which SPSS can read.

Converting to .xls is fine except when you have more than about 65,000 cases. Any other possible solutions?

Oliver, Richard
You could save the Excel file in CSV format and then use the Text Wizard to read the CSV file into SPSS.
