Export to Excel Fix

Sandra Delova
Hello all,

I was trying to export a relatively big table from spss output to excel
and it didn't go through (spss encountered a problem with a memory...).
I searched the web and I found that this is a known issue in SPSS 16.0
and that also that has been fixed with the hotfix 16.0.2.
I wanted to check with you, have you experienced this problem and does
the fix really work.

I bet this topic has already been brought up on this mailing list, but I
am new here; actually this is my first message.
Thank you in advance,
Sandra

I was having the same problem (exporting a 16-page long table to
Excel), installed all the patches up to 16.0.2 and the export still
failed. After running the 16.0.2.1 hotfix, it finally worked.

Re: Export to Excel Fix

Thomas MacFarland
Hi y'all:

I had the same problem with SPSS 16, even with the patches and fixes.  The
table simply would not export to .xls format, with a memory problem notice
showing on the screen.

Fortunately, the same export worked quite nicely with SPSS 17 (Beta).

SPSS 16 had more than a few problems so I'll be glad when SPSS 17 is
released in final version.

Best wishes.

Tom

Re: Export to Excel Fix

Sandra Delova
Hi all,

I am waiting for the hotfix 16.0.2 to be installed on my work machine, I
really hope it's gonna work. I will not be able to get SPSS 17 (beta),
because of the company policy..So, if it doesn't work, as In Dr. Tomas's
case, do you have an idea what can I do? I tried exporting to txt file,
didn't work also.

Thank you,
Sandra

Re: Export to Excel Fix

Albert-Jan Roskam
In reply to this post by Thomas MacFarland
Hi,

Just out of curiosity (I am using v14 or v15 myself): did you try using OMS  (--> utilities --> OMS control panel) to export the table to e.g. tabbed text? That might be a work around. Something like the syntax below.

Cheers!!
Albert-Jan

* OMS.
OMS
 /SELECT TABLES
 /IF COMMANDS = ["Descriptives"]
     SUBTYPES = ["Descriptive Statistics"]
 /DESTINATION FORMAT = TABTEXT
  OUTFILE = "D:\temp\mytable.txt".

DESCRIPTIVES
  VARIABLES=age
  /STATISTICS=MEAN STDDEV MIN MAX .

OMSEND.

Re: Export to Excel Fix

Sandra Delova
Thanks to all of you for your help!

The hotfix 16.0.2 did work for me.

Albert-Jan, yes, i tried OMS and didn't work either.
I also tried some temporary fix that I found on some forum, creating system
environment variable called SPSSClientMaxHeapLevel, and set the value to 2
or 3. Someone said that this worked for him, I didn't have luck with that.

Thanks again!
Enjoy the weekend,
Sandra
