Exporting V18 output to Excel 2007

Mark Webb-5
From what I can see SPSS V18 [vintage late 2009] still can't export to
Excel 2007 [assuming vintage of 2007]. I only see .xls offered as an
option or am I missing something here?
If this is true what do people do who use Excel 2007?
And what did the SPSS programmers do between 2007 & 2009 to accommodate
possibly one of the world most popular business software suites?
Surely there is more demand for this improvement from V17 to V18 than to
give us more non-parametric stats routines !
Is there possibly a work around at Dev Central ?

Re: Exporting V18 output to Excel 2007

Since Excel 2007 reads Excel 2003 xls files perfectly well, there is little or no advantage to providing native xlsx support for output export.  Excel file formats are extremely complex, and we try to put our development resources where they will do the most good.  We do support xlsx for data, because 2007 has larger limits that would sometimes be of value for data.  (Support for data and output export has to be different code.)
