FW: Re: SPSS 15 and AMOS 7 under Vista OS

Weeks, Kyle
Dear SPSS X list,

We tested SPSS 15 on pre-release versions of Vista and did not identify any issues. Unfortunately, some issues were introduced in the Vista final release.

SPSS is actively working to resolve these issues and we plan on releasing a patch to make SPSS 15.0.1 Vista-compatible.  The estimated date of release for the patch is end of April 2007.

Sorry for any inconvenience.

Regards.

For a company that claims to offer the best predictive solution, SPSS Inc.
failed miserably to predict that once Vista is available people would start
using it and they would still like to use the software they need.

The tech support was a joke. First he tried to explain to me that rewriting
the code for Vista would take months (what have they done until now - it's
not like they had to wait for a retail copy to see how to write code for
Vista) and then he offered me two solutions: either uninstall Vista and
downgrade to XP, or wait for SPSS 16. Seriously? Is this all they can come
up with?

Maybe it's time to rethink their approach to customer support.

Despite the web site, SPSS 13 seems to run ok under Vista.  There are a
couple of error messages that come up on first opening SPSS, but analyses

Been fighting with vista and spss 15 since mid february. The lock code, which the license is attached to changes every time I turn my lap top on in a different location. I claimed to spss tech support that I was using xp because they clearly state they do not support vista. I have had about 7 different licenses. Now that I have read this string of discussion I am giving up and will just use spss on my pc until the patch is available for my laptop. I do not move my pc, nor do I ever turn it off, soooooo, may be I can maintain access to spss there until the patch is available.

In reply to this post by Weeks, Kyle
I'm having the same problem too - the software works fine under vista, just the licensing that is an issue. I could get it to work with the 14 day trial, but then when I licensed it, it stopped working. Also, the license wizard does not work, I could only license the software using the licensing option during the installation process (had to uninstall and re-install to access this). Now it has stopped working altogether and I have run out of licenses. Terrible service from SPSS both in their lack of preparation for the vista release and their responses to these problems.

Licensing problems and SPSS

Mark A Davenport MADAVENP
I don't know if others have been having this problem but be aware that we
have had some licensing problems pop up in the past few weeks that we have
isolated to Microsofts' daylight savings time patch.  A particular
instance was our campus-networked version of AMOS 7 and my home version of
AMOS 6.  All of a sudden, AMOS would no longer find the license and shut
down.  Once I turned off daylight saving, the problem with AMOS 7 went
away.  I'm still working on the AMOS 6 issue.  I don't think this was
SPSS's fault.  MS is notorious for not caring how their software patches
affect other software (why should they care).
