Hi,
does anybody know, how in crosstabs  the test statistic is calculated
for Fisher ' S EXACT TEST; if I have tables with more than 2 x2 rows
/columns?

Not sure if you are asking an operational or an
algorithmic question.  Freeman and Halton(1951)
generalized the Fisher exact test to the general
r x c table.  To obtain this test in SPSS,
you must have the Exact Tests option.  Run
Crosstabs, ask for exact tests, and ask for
the chi-square test of independence.  SPSS
provides the same test as is found in StatXact
from Cytel Software.

Monica,

SPSS will calculate the Fisher's Exact test only for 2X2 tables. If yu
want an exact statisitc for more than  2X2 rows you need to get an SPSS
product like Stat Exact.
