Fw: Survey research and SPSS

John F Hall
Dear Colleagues

Please find below a short blurb on my webpage http://independent.academia.edu/JohnFHall which contains updated and expanded training materials on the use of computers to process and analyse data from questionnaire surveys, particularly using SPSS 15 for Windows.  I would be grateful if you could draw them to the attention of students and colleagues in social research as I need feedback on ease of use and understanding.

There is also a selection of survey-based research reports and related items deriving from my 45 years in survey research.

All materials are freely downloadable.

Regards

John F Hall

New learning resource for survey research and SPSS for Windows

A new learning resource for social (survey) research is now open to students, social researchers and others.

http://independent.academia.edu/JohnFHall

The page has been set up by John Hall (now retired and living in France, but still actively involved in supporting social research).  It contains a selection of (not easily available, if at all) research reports, papers and other documents relating to his time as Senior Research Fellow at the SSRC Survey Unit and as Director of the Survey Research Unit at the then Polytechnic of North London.

The first entry under Papers is a guide (with hyperlinks) to all contents

The first entry under Teaching is an annotated guide (with hyperlinks) to learning materials based on the postgraduate Survey Analysis Workshop he designed and taught at PNL until 1992.  There are introductory articles on the use of computers to process and analyse data from questionnaire surveys and extensive tutorials on SPSS.  The latter have been updated and greatly expanded for use with SPSS 15 for Windows.  They have a gentle step-by-step approach with full screen-dumps at each step.

The first slide-show under Talks is fun.

There are more tutorials and exercises to add, but there's enough for now to get people started on SPSS, and find out more about its uses (and abuses).

All contents may be freely downloaded.
