Without seeing your questionnaire, but assuming your data are read in as, say, V1 to V10 in your example, and also that you have variable labels for each:

mult response groups = group1 (v1 to v10 (1))
    /freq group1.

..will produce a mult response table using the var labels.  You can use the same logic to produce other groups.

If you want tables by demographics etc. you need to specify the tab variables as well

eg

mult response groups = group1 (v1 to v10 (1))
    /var sex (1,2)
    /tab group1 by sex.

See my introductory article on multiple response

and also pages 27 to 35 of my Old Dog, Old tricks paper, discussing a multiple response question (very similar to yours) in the 2002 European Social Survey, which has fully worked examples of two different ways of analysing this question with mult response  http://surveyresearch.weebly.com/uploads/2/9/9/8/2998485/old_dog.doc  There is also an accompanying slide-show http://surveyresearch.weebly.com/uploads/2/9/9/8/2998485/slides_3_-_european_social_survey_2002.ppt(slides 13 to 44) for this bit.

Dear all,

I keep on having this problem handling the multiple responses questions with SPSS / PASW
i've been checking for a solution for this problem for a long time, red so many posts regarding the same issue but couldn't find what i want.
i would really appreciate any help regarding this.

here is the issue i'm facing in details.

in several questions among the same questionnaire were the multiple responses are possible.
for example

i'm having a question with 10 answer selection
the row data for that question - for example - if i select answers 3,4 & 7.. will be as follows

0011001000

now exporting this data to SPSS will create 10 variables, 1 var for each statement with values 1=mentioned & 0=not mentioned
what can i do to get the results in SPSS / PASW in one variable with the percentages / frequencies for each statement distributed ?

s ame process i can do using a data processing software (NIPO - DIANA)

what are the steps in SPSS / PASW that i should follow to get the results for the question were each statement shows it's own freq. / percentage instead of getting each statement in a separate variable ?

thanks and best regards,

M.Aayed
