Hi everyone,
This is my first post. I'm fairly knowledgeable with stats and spss in particular, but I have a bit of a mystery on my hands. I ran parallel analyses using GLM and GZLM (with identity link distribution). In theory they should produce identical results but in practice they do not. I must be missing something, if anyone can suggest why these analyses produce differing results I would appreciate it. For example, features of the data set that Wald and the F test may be differentially sensitive to or some bit of syntax that I missed to ensure their equivalency. Below I post the syntax used for each of the two analyses. *#1. *General Linear Model UNIANOVA DV BY cond WITH Zattach1 Zattach2 Zattach3 Zattach4 Zmean.car.quality /METHOD=SSTYPE(3) /INTERCEPT=INCLUDE /CRITERIA=ALPHA(0.05) /DESIGN= cond Zmean.car.quality Zattach1 Zattach2 Zattach3 Zattach4 Zmean.car.quality*cond Zattach1*cond Zattach2*cond Zattach3*cond Zattach4*cond /PRINT DESCRIPTIVES PARAMETER. *#2. * Generalized Linear Model GENLIN DV BY cond (ORDER=ASCENDING) WITH Zmean.car.quality Zattach1 Zattach2 Zattach3 Zattach4 /MODEL cond Zmean.car.quality Zattach1 Zattach2 Zattach3 Zattach4 cond*Zmean.car.quality cond*Zattach1 cond*Zattach2 cond*Zattach3 cond*Zattach4 INTERCEPT=YES DISTRIBUTION=NORMAL LINK=IDENTITY /CRITERIA SCALE=1 COVB=MODEL PCONVERGE=1E-006(ABSOLUTE) SINGULAR=1E-012 ANALYSISTYPE=3(WALD) CILEVEL=95 CITYPE=WALD LIKELIHOOD=FULL /MISSING CLASSMISSING=EXCLUDE /PRINT CPS DESCRIPTIVES MODELINFO FIT SUMMARY SOLUTION. Hi Jesse,
Under the CRITERIA subcommand you write "SCALE = 1". This should rather be "SCALE = MLE", I think. This is also the default when the distribution is NORMAL. Good Morning List,
Does anyone here know if the following glitches have been fixed in the patches (1 or 2) for version 17? I don't want to have to remove my python installation and re-install the new one if I don't have to do so! 1. While in the data editor on a line of data, any attempt to adjust the column width results in the entire data window shifting to the top of the data set; this is pretty annoying if all one wants to do is widen the column to view the contents. 2. In the output window, the copy and paste function does not appear to work when working with the "Title" box for graphs/charts. I can't speak for the first problem but I can speculate on the second
problem. The title is a text frame inside of object frame. When you click on the title, you're selecting the object frame. You can copy but the object is not very good for pasting anywhere. Click again and your selecting the title. If you're having to replicate a lot of titles across charts, think about using a chart template to do that automatically. I notice that a lot of posts recently haven't had a subject so I stuck my own in here. -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Roberts, Michael Sent: Friday, May 29, 2009 7:16 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Good Morning List, Does anyone here know if the following glitches have been fixed in the patches (1 or 2) for version 17? ViAnn & Mark,
Thank you for your responses, and my apologies to the list for omitting the subject. ViAnn, are you using the patched version, and if so which patch? Here is the odd thing about the copy and pasting in V17 - I do double click the title to copy the text (since I don't have very many charts that are similar), but it still does not paste in the SPSS output window. However, oddly enough, I can paste the copied text into a MS Word document(?) Anyway, I will follow your suggestion about using the chart template for this, maybe even update with the patch and go through the whole routine of updating the python setup. Just feel that it may be a glitch in the app. Though. Hi Mike,
The issue with the Data Editor taking you to the first row of the data file if you adjust the column width of a variable does not occur for me with Release 17.0.2. Can you be more specific about what you're trying to do with copying and pasting titles? By title do you mean what's labeled Title in the navigation tree on the left of the output window, or the actual title of the graph as specified when creating it? For me, the former works as expected, in that I can copy and paste that text. The latter does show something odd, which is that when I click on it a single time and have it outlined, then click on it again, I see a solid bar of background color and can't copy or paste in that area. Is this the issue you're referring to? I don't see evidence that this is a known issue, and will check into it. One way to work around this is to click on the title, then right-click on it and click Delete on the pop-up menu. You can then choose Options>Title from the menus and the text "Title" is inserted and can be edited. Hi David,
I am still using the un-patched v17 , so this may not be a problem with the v17.0.2, or with the first patch. The issue is some of the data in the files I work (text strings) with seem to be wider than the column width displayed. Therefore, the entire data value are hidden. Now, my display can show about 48 cases (rows) of data, and depending upon my font size, perhaps more. When I am looking at data beyond the first 48 cases, if the data are not visible, with the earlier versions (<=15), all I needed to do to see the additional information was simply resize the column by going to the top (headers) of the column (double arrow) and stretching the column a bit. Now, with the v17, the moment I right click the double arrow, the data editor returns me to the first 48 cases. If this is an issue with the un-patched version of 17, then I suppose I will have to patch it. But I don't want to do that because I have python, and everything else working the way I want! TIA Mike p.s. I responded to your earlier email twice but got a response from Support saying that the "mailbox is no longer monitored." -----Original Message----- From: SPSSX(r) Discussion [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Nichols, David P. Hi Mike,
It's hard for me to know, since I'm running 17.0.2, but have you tried left-clicking when the double-headed arrow appears as you hover over the line between two columns? I can left-click and drag the divider in 17.0.2 and the earlier versions I have installed without being taken back to the top of the data file. Hi David,
Thank you for looking into this. It appears that no matter what I do, the moment I click at the double-headed arrows (either left or right), the data editor window immediately returns all data to the first row at the top. Once I change the width, however, it keeps that configuration. If this anomaly is specific to my system alone (others with v17.0.0 do not experience this issue), then it must be something we have locally, I think, since this appears to happen with other installations of SPSS v17.0.0 in our organization. I do not recall having this difficulty with SPSS version 14, though. FWIW, this is my system config: PC - Dell Optiplex 755 (other machines are similar) Windows XP Professional, SP3 MS Office 2007 IE ver. 7.0.5730.13 Processor: core2duo, 3.0ghz (E8400) 4.0gb RAM HD1: 160GB, HD2:160GB SPSS ver.17.0.0 Concurrent applications running: MS Outlook; MS Word; MS Excel; IE. Hi Mike,
No, it's not specific to your system. This is indeed a Release 17.0.0 bug, fixed in Release 17.0.1. Sorry about the inconvenience. Patching to 17.0.1 or 17.0.2 will take care of it.
