Get File command returning errors

Barbas
When I enter the "Get File" command

GET FILE=’F:\yada_yada_exact_file_location.SAV'.

to run syntax I keep getting error messages

">Warning # 206 in column 20.  Text: \
>An invalid character has been found on a command."

and
"
>Error # 31.  Command name: GET FILE
>File not found.
>This command not executed.
"
The file IS definitely there as I can open it from the exact location listed in the command, but the error messages and file not found replies have me twitching. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong? Thanks.

Re: Get File command returning errors

Melissa Ives
I suspect the opening single quote may be the culprit--it looks like it
may be the unshifted tilde (that character beside the '1' key.  Try
deleting that and replacing it with a real single quote.

Just a quick thought but the filename should be surrounded by the same
character either ' or " not as your example appears to indicate two
different characters

That first apostrophe doesn't look an apostrophe to me. Why not use the Open file dialog to paste your command and then use that. Saves much frustration.

Re: Validity

Dale
In reply to this post by Lemon, John S.
Validity to some extent is an evolving concept.  But, as a foundation
the basic principles of what is usually intended by the terms in
measurement are set forward in the "The Standards of Educational and
Psychological Tests: 1999 revision" which is available from AERS as I
recall. This tends to be the foundation document for most professional
groups.  This said, reliability and validity are viewed a bit
"differently" depending on the measurement approach you take (i.e., SEM,
Classical Item Analysis, IRT Based Models, etc.). The RUST site give
more information on this another aspects of interest as well
(http://aac.ncat.edu/documents/rust.html).

Re: Get File command returning errors

Hi,

Does it happen to be a network disk? You may need to
use the exact location. Remember that one can
arbitrarily assign drive letters. So for example use:
get file = '\\server1\folder_x\docs\tmp\myfile.sav'.

And be consistent with the use of quotes: either
single (') or double ("), not both in one command.

Cheers!!
