Getting to the end of the file in the data editor (for very large files)

Staffan Lindberg
Dear list!

I have a rather large file (some 400.000 cases). Some times you want to
check some variables at the end of the file. Trying CTRL+END does not seem
to work (or you have to wait several hours). I guess you can sort the file
in descending order of the ID-variable and remember to sort the file back
again but this is a rather tedious way to do it. Is there a simpler way to
accomplish this? Does this have anything to do with the amount of allocated
workspace?

Hi Staffan,

Try these two.

1.  In the toolbar there is a Variables tool (the icon is a column of
rows with question mark).  click that, select/highlight a variable of
interest then click GO TO.

2.  I know that one of the reasons for the Split window option is to
check some variables (or cases) at the end of the file.   Click
Window>Split and scroll to the row (case) or variable (column) you
are interested in.  To remove the split, click Window>Remove split

HTH,

Florio
