I have been having 2 glitches using SPSS 16 under Vista 64 Ultimate.
1). When I use Explorer to navigate to a file, e.g., .sps or .sav, and
then double click it, it starts SPSS, and opens the file. However, it
also brings up a pop-up that says the file cannot be found. It
obviously found the file because it opens it. I work around it by
<ok>ing the pop-up.
I do have the default file locations at D:\project\. That is the root
for the file I click on. As a dinosaur, I have the habit of keeping the
software storage separate from the user storage, i.e., I don't like to
put non-system info under c:\program files.
2) one of the very useful instructional features of SPSS is to be able
to highlight some syntax, and click the syntax icon. It has some odd
behavior. I have narrowed part of it down to a small example.
For example if I have a new startup of SPSS and syntax that says
discriminant
recode
and I highlight the first word, click the icon, x off the help page,
then highlight the second word, it comes up with the help for the first
word.
After that, if I highlight the first word and click the icon, it comes
up with something from another session.
I work around this by typing the word into the edit box under help.
