The best in my opinion is the SPSS Survival Manual by Julie Pallant.

Can anyone suggest something that actually has programming syntax? It seems that all this stuff is icon driven.

All, please also note the excellent post suggesting that there be a
FAQ covering this kind of thing. This question does indeed come up often. I am a bigger fan of the Field book than the Pallant book, which is one of the reasons I decided to post. I debated whether posting the link to this Amazon list was a good idea. I considered copying and pasting the titles without the links, but the links might have value to some on SPSSX-L. I am certainly not the first or last to build such a list in Amazon. It lists SPSS resources I recommend when I am asked about learning SPSS and/or statistics. Many of them have been mentioned already, but this will help you find them. (It also happens to include Clementine - you can ignore those). I haven't repeated the many great suggested free sites, and links. And I hope the FAQ idea takes off. |

V13 is "old" so it probably has expired. You will need to contact SPSS

Hi Tinashe,
We have had this problem with SPSS 14 at times. Usually it was due to the user entering the authorisation code while not having full admin rights, and therefore it not being able to write the new licensing information to the appropriate file. Try logging is as administrator and retrying the License Authorisation Wizard. If that doesn't work, check the contents of the 'lservrc' file in the installation folder (it's a plain text file). It will contain one entry for each license that has been activated. By deleting any entries for old, expired licenses (eg, the expired trial license), it may now correctly read the current license details. Hope this helps. Cheers, Kylie.
