Hi Jesica,
You can find several sample files (.sav) under
c:\program files\spss, for example the Employee Data.
You can use this to 'play' with SPSS. Just open a file
and try some menu options. Under every procedure,
you'll also find a 'paste' button. This allows you to
paste an underlying code ('syntax') into a text-like
document. The advantage of this is that everything you
do in spss is recorded as syntax. So if you (or
anybody else) want to do the exact same statistical
procedure again, you only need to run the syntax. And
some more advanced procedures/transformations can only
be done using syntax, not using the menu.
