Help with ICD9 Codes

R C Intrieri
Hello Listmates,

This is a complete shot in the dark -- does anyone out there have a complete list of the ICD9-CM codes
and descriptions that they may have placed in an SPSS syntax file.  I am working with a national database
and would like to create a syntax file that will facilitate value labels for all of the codes.  If you have
this and would be willing to share -- could you please back channel me at [hidden email].
Thanks.

Re: Help with ICD9 Codes

Ergul, Emel A.
CMS publishes the ICD9_CM codes yearly with recent updates.

Presumably, http://www.cms.hhs.gov/ICD9ProviderDiagnosticCodes/ will be the
right address to go.

I don't work with ICD codes but are you looking for something like the
following:

http://www.hcup-us.ahrq.gov/toolssoftware/procedure/procedure.jsp

The *.csv file provided on the website contains line like the following:

'ICD-9-CM CODE','ICD-9-CM CODE DESCRIPTION','CATEGORY ASSIGNMENT'
'0001',"THERAP ULTRASOUND OF HEAD AN (Begin 2002)",2
'0002',"THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND OF HE (Begin 2002)",2
'0003',"THERAP ULTRASOUND PERIPHRL V (Begin 2002)",2
'0009',"OTHER THERAPEUTIC ULTRASOUND (Begin 2002)",2

You can obtain a great deal of documentation from the Centers for Disease Control site at
www.cdc.gov/nchs/icd/icd9.htm
