Hello, all.
I have 1200 filled questionnaires. I do not have licensed version of SPSS, and I will be downloading a demo version to do my data analysis. What I want to achieve is that instead of entering all 1200 cases in SPSS (I’ll have SPSS for two weeks, I believe), I manually calculate frequencies and enter data in SPSS. So, for example, if I have 400 people who have strongly agreed to an item, 400 who have agreed to an item, and 400 who have disagreed to an item, how do I tell SPSS to treat 400 as 400 cases, and not a single value? I do not know much about SPSS syntax, but, if a simple piece of code can achieve what I am hoping for, then, I will use a syntax based solution, I use a screen reader to use SPSS, so a GUI base solution will be slightly preferred. Any help will be most appreciated. ===================== To manage your subscription to SPSSX-L, send a message to [hidden email] (not to SPSSX-L), with no body text except the command. Assuming you want to perform analyses that involve more than one item in your
survey, you'll need to enter frequencies for various combinations of variables, not just for specific values of one variable. Having said that, the WEIGHT command is what you' looking for. https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSLVMB_24.0.0/spss/base/idh_weig.html https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSLVMB_24.0.0/spss/base/syn_weight.html HTH. Thank you very much for your reply. Here is an overview of what I have
understood after reading your reply and links you shared. Please do correct me, if my understanding is not correct. I cannot enter individual variables and weight them. For example, if there are 600 females and 600 males, I cannot enter a weight of 600 for females = 0, and males = 1. What I can do, however, is if 400 females are not at all concern about climate change, and 200 females are concern about climate change, I can assign a weight to these two groups? Now, I have a question. Can you assign weight to multiple variables in SPSs simultaneously? For example, four groups of 300 individuals have scored 21, 22, 23, and 24, on concern for climate change scale, and these same people have scored 41, 42, 43, and 44, on concern about air pollution scale. If I want to calculate correlation between these two scales, and assign a weight of 300 to the scores obtain by respondents on both variables, is it possible? Sorry, if my questions sound too basic. Simple example of crosstabs from weighted data: data list list /rowvar columnvar weightvar. begin data 1 1 10 1 2 15 2 1 20 2 2 5 end data. variable labels rowvar 'gender' columnvar 'opinion'. value labels rowvar 1 'male' 2 'female' / columnvar 1 'agree' 2 'disagree'. weight by weightvar. crosstabs rowvar by columnvar. There is a limit to what you can do with pre-aggregated data. If your primary concern is the amount of time it will take to enter the raw data into SPSS Statistics, then enter the raw data into a text file or Excel file and then read that data into SPSS Statistics using GET DATA or DATA LIST. If you prefer the UI: File>Import Data. You find out more about the various options without having an installed version of SPSS Statistics: https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSLVMB_24.0.0/spss/base/datafile_auto_1.html The entire help system is available in the Knowledge Center, including tutorials.
